Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Ypres

 

On 30th January, 1916, 12th Royal Fusiliers of 17 Brigade, 24th Division left their camp at Ouderdom and moved into the front line trenches near Hell Fire Corner in the Ypres salient where they remained until 5th February on which day they moved back in support to the Zillebeke dug outs. The Battalion Diary records that on 2nd February the enemy shelled the C3 section of trench, scoring 3 direct hits on the battalion’s machine gun and grenade posts. 3 men were killed, one of them being Arthur Rose.
